Alison C. Rollins (born and raised in St. Louis city) holds a Master of Fine Arts from Brown University, a Master of Library and Information Science from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and a Bachelor of Science from Howard University. Her next poetry collection, Black Bell, is out this April from Copper Canyon Press. Rollins was named a 2023-2024 Harvard Radcliffe Institute fellow and a National Endowment for the Arts Literature fellow in 2019. In 2021, her essay "Dispatch from the Racial Mountain" was selected by contest judge Kiese Laymon as the winner of the Gulf Coast prize in nonfiction. Her work, across genres, has appeared or is forthcoming in American Poetry Review, Black Warrior Review, Iowa Review, The New York Times Magazine, and elsewhere. A Cave Canem and Callaloo fellow, she was a 2016 recipient of the Poetry Foundation’s Ruth Lilly and Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Fellowship. Rollins has been awarded support from the Bread Loaf Writers' Conference and is a recipient of the 2018 Rona Jaffe Writers' Award. A 2020 Pushcart Prize winner, her debut poetry collection Library of Small Catastrophes (Copper Canyon Press, 2019) was a 2020 Hurston/Wright Foundation Legacy Award nominee. Rollins has held faculty as well as librarian appointments at various institutions including the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Colorado College, and Pacific Northwest College of Art. She is an assistant professor of English at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Join us on Thursday August 31 as we leave our August vacation month for a fresh collaboration show with The Daily Note. We’ll be hosting an open mic and cash poetry slam at Revival Brewing! The open mic is open to all genres, including music! Poets who want to compete in the slam should have at least 2 poems prepared, either memorized or on paper/accessible on your phone. Poems should be at or under 3 minutes in length.

Open Mic : performers have 4-5 minutes max on the mic. Please mind the time, be considerate of fellow readers/performers. Let’s make sure everyone can get some time on stage. Think either 1 long poem, 1 song, or 2 short poems.

Poetry Slam : your last chance to qualify for finals stage in May! Top two poets advance. If you’d like to compete please have 2 -3 poems prepared. They don’t have to be memorized, can be read off your phone or page. Make sure they’re under 3 minutes long! Poems longer than 3 minutes may get you a time penalty.

Join us on Thursday January 19 for a special collab night at Revival Brewing! We’re teaming up with folks with The Daily Note at Revival to host a special poetry night, bringing our show to a new place.

There will be an open mic and a poetry slam. Readers on the open mic will have a max of 4 minutes (think two short poems or one long piece). Please get in touch if you’d like to read! Doors open at 7pm at Revival Brewing at 50 Sims Ave in Providence. The poetry slam is jam packed with local voices you don’t want to miss! There will also be vendors, and music DJed by Cam Bells.
